KTV Roundup – 21/04/2014

Hi there and welcome to the first KTV Roundup.

In the KTV Roundup I’ll be covering the big things to know from the last week of Korean TV. We won’t look at the chart shows here – for that you’ll need to check out the Kpop – Performance categories. (You can get to these by checking out the categories to the left of the page.)

Park Bom, Nana, not being skinny and beautiful, rich heiresses. What else could you want?

What to watch out for this week

Here’s my breakdown of what I think the things to watch out for on KTV are this week.

First up, Hotel King.  Hotel King airs on a Saturday and Sunday on MBC at 21:55 KST. This show has so far only aired a couple of episodes but is already being discussed over much of the English language internet.

The show features Lee Da Hae as Ah Mo Ne, a young heiress who is trying to salvage her father’s 7 star hotel ( The only one in the country, would you believe?) Lee Dong Wook appears as Cha Jae Wan, the hotel manager who manages to turn his father who abandoned him into an enemy in order to help the heiress. Despite the rather fairy-tale setting, I’m quite looking forward to this so I’m sure you’ll hear what I thought about this week in next week’s roundup!

As my something new, I’m looking at Rude Miss Young-Ae, Kim Hyun Sook plays a larger lady (Lee Young Ae) and the show follows the stress and prejudice that affects her in work, home and love. This seems like it could be really interesting, and a big contrast to what we normally see. Whether it delivers for me remains to be seen. The show is on season 13, so it must have had some success, and I hope that just joining the show now I won’t miss too much. If you’re looking to find it yourself, it airs at 23:00 KST on TvN.

And last on my list of shows to check out this week is Roommate. Roommate is a variety show with a simple premise – a whole bunch of famous people are put in a house together and become roommates. The house itself has sixty cameras, so promises to catch lots of awesome stuff. The people chosen for the most part have minimal variety show experience and have ages ranging from 19 -45. The stars are also from a wide range of entertainment careers, so this could be quite interesting for all involved. For those who want to know, the show is due to star: Chanyeol, Shin Sung Woo, Jo Se Ho, Lee Dong Wook, Park Min Woo, Seo Kang Joon, Hong Soo Hyun, Nana, Lee So Ra, Park Bom and Song Ga yeon. The show airs on Sundays at 16:55 KST on SBS.

Well – that’s my pick of the week. What do you guys think I should be watching? Let me know in the comments below!
