Plot

A 19 year old boy called Ri Myung Hoon (Choi Seung Hyun) leads a privileged life in North Korea, but when his North Korean spy father dies in disgrace, his family are found to be guilty by association and he is offered a deal. If he goes to South Korea as an assassin and finishes what his father couldn’t, then him and his sister will be released from the forced labour camp.

He arrives in South Korea posing as a defector and meets Hye In (Han Yeri) who is a bullied girl at the South Korean school he is enrolled into.

Ri Myung Hoon finds out his mission, however as it proceeds, a power struggle unfolds which leaves his life in the balance!

My Thoughts

This film was really good!  There were a couple of scenes that didn’t feel well explained or where I wasn’t too sure who someone was supposed to be, but it was just a couple of scenes and could easily be attributed to my lousy Korean and poor subtitles.

With some hindsight on the film, some of the character development felt a bit rushed, but that is often the case with films where they have to be brutal in the cutting room to make the film the required length. Films often have to sacrifice unnecessary character development for plot progression.

This was the first time that I have seen TOP act and part of me was worried that it might turn out terrible, but he is actually a convincing and emotional actor, so yay!

All in all, this was a good film and probably a good place to start if you’re new to Kfilms. Plus it had guns and explosions – what more could you want?
