Warning this post refers to an alcoholic beverage, please drink responsibly and be aware of local drinking laws
What is it?
A Soju is a clear, distilled alcoholic beverage that is very popular in Korea.
It is traditionally made from rice, wheat or barley and while alcohol percentages vary it is usually around 20%.
Drinking in Korea has a number of customary actions to it. A drink should be both taken and offered with 2 hands, you should look away or cover your mouth to drink and it is (and I think this is the same in many countries) rude to refuse the first drink.
Soju is usually drunk neat, however It can be purchased in fruit flavours, and cocktails including it are starting to emerge. I personally am partially to some Soju mixed with Apple and Mango fruit juice.
