Inkigayo to not count 19+ rated music videos in their chart

Inkigayo (Sunday airing music chart show) has announced that it will no longer count views on 19+ rated videos towards it’s chart. Inkigayo’s chart included an SNS (social media) section which takes into account things like Youtube views.

It seems likely the decision has been made as Inkigayo is rated 15+ and so therefore a portion of it’s viewers should not be watching these videos.

The decision will affect a number of videos with sexual content, alcohol references, drug references and weapons.

I don’t really see the problem with this myself, and it does kind of make sense. Inkigayo probably just want their chart to be reflective of their viewer base. I doubt 19+ rated music videos will stop being made and shows like SBS MTV ‘The Show’ will continue to air 19+ rated content.

What do you think though? Let me know in the comments below.
